Good morning everyone, today we are starting our river cruise and we are going to learn the basics of Tapestry Crochet.

We are going to make a coin purse and we do not expect this cruise to go on and on, in other words, we should be able to finish this project in about 3 days, which is perfect for me and for you 🙂

Please take a seat and take out your supplies and we will start promptly.

To start, we want to make a magic ring (with color A) 357 358

which is nothing more than a circle without any knots. Then you want to crochet 10 single crochet ( SC ) in that circle and when you are finished you need to pull the loose end until you have a tight little circle, close with a slip stitch, at this point you can put a stitch marker, but because the work is tiny I feel that it is awkward, so after this round I am not going to use it again.

Row #1: the sequence is 2 – 2 – 2 : we are going to do 2 SC in each of the SC from previous row, at the end of the row you must have 20 SC.

I used color B for this round but you can continue using color A if you wish, but row 3 you should switch to the second color.

We want to start the process of working over the color that we are not using.  Please take the tail from our magic ring and the color we are not using and work over them. This way everything gets weaved in while we are working.

We will work in the back loop of our single crochet from the previous row, there is no chain between each single crochet, this is continuous work.

Row #2: the sequence is 1 – 2 -1: at the end of the row you will  have 30 SC

Row #3: the sequence is 1 – 1 – 2  : total of 40 SC at the end of the row.

Row #5: the sequence is 1 – 1 – 1  – 2 : total of 50 SC at the end of the row.

Row #6: the sequence is 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 2: total of 60 SC at the end of the row.

Row 7: the sequence is 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 2: total of 70 SC at the end of the row.

Row 8: the sequence is 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 2: total of 80 SC at the end of the row.

These 8 rows will form the bottom of the purse, we are not going to increase any more, the following rows will be a SC in each single crochet from the previous row.

We want to do lots of rows, these will form the body of our coin purse, just remember that the last 4 rows are to be in the same color. These will be the rows right before we start working on our motifs.

Let us stop here. When we start again we will need our graph.

Tips: please keep each color separated by a nice distance, if not you will be wasting time untangling every 2 minutes. To change colors remember your old color will be on the hook and the new color is the one you loop over and draw through.

Please, check the photographs for any visuals.

Take your time and complete each row, we will start the design on Monday morning.

I hope you have a Terrific Weekend…
